Sightseeing and excursions in Catalonia
Catalonia is a part of Spain that is spectacularly
beautiful, whether it be the scenery, the culture or the cuisine.
We have put together various excursions that you may like to
try during your stay here.
These excursions are designed for the golfer
who may not want to play everyday or for non-golfers who would
like an alternative. The following are examples and can be
tailor made to meet your requirements.
Montserrat
When
in Catalonia a visit to the Mountain of Montserrat is a must
for anyone with its spectacular peaks rising over 4000ft and
the Benedictine monastery founded in the 11th century. The
Virgin of Montserrat is housed in the abbey and is the Patroness
of Catalonia. The Abbey has also become world famous because
of its boy's choir "Escolania" and school of music,
considered to be the choir of oldest European tradition. A
trip to the top of the mountain gives some breathtaking views
of the surrounding countryside.
Nuria
Valley
Set in the Pre-Pyrenees, the Nuria Valley is
actually a ski resort in winter but in summer it provides a
lovely peaceful setting to relax or maybe take one of the mountain
tracks. The valley can only be reached by the rack-railway,
which winds its way up more than 3000ft to the sanctuary and
hotel, noted for it's excellent cuisine. The sanctuary
is surrounded
by peaks of more than 9000ft and is an ideal place for taking
a few
spectacular photos.
Andorra
The
Principality of Andorra, bordered on one side by France and
the other by Spain is a beautiful mountainous country worth
visiting for both its scenery and duty-free shopping. Andorra
in the winter months is a busy ski centre but in summer you
can visit the upper slopes and take in the magnificent views
or come across a secluded mountain lake.
Sitges
Often known as the 'Jewel of the Mediterranean',
Sitges is the ideal Catalan seaside town in which to spend
a relaxing day, whether it be visiting the numerous museums
and magnificent colonial seafront houses or relaxing on one
of the many terrace bars and excellent restaurants.
Cadaques
Cadaques
and Sant Pere de Rodes Monestary- Salvador Dali said that Cadaques
was the most beautiful village in the world and it's not hard
to understand why, his house here is now open to the public
as a museum. Originally a fishing village, it has retained
much of its image which make it so popular still with tourists
from all over the world. The monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes
originally constructed between the 10th and 12th centuries
commands spectacular views over the surrounding coastline and
is really well worth the visit.
Pals
and Empuries
The lovely old village of Pals is set on a hill
as are most in this area and surrounded by ponds and marshland
that were dried out to cultivate rice. The first records of
Pals are from the 9th century but its origins are much older.
The village has some beautiful old shops selling every type
of ceramic imaginable. In Empuries it's easy to stand in the
ruins of the ancient Roman city with the sun beating down and
drift back in time as the cooling breeze blows in from the
Mediterranean.
Tarragona
The World Heritage Centre of Tarragona is one
of the most important Roman cities in the Mediterranean and
an extraordinary place to visit. From the Aqueduct on the outskirts
to the amphitheatre and walled city within it contains some
of the most precious monuments and remains from these ancient
times.
Universal's
Port Aventura
The first theme park in Spain, it has now been
taken over by Universal Studios and been expanded. Fun for
all the family, it is divided into China, the Far West, Mexico,
Polynesia and the Mediterranean and includes spectacular shows
from these different parts of the world together with restaurants
and a night-time finale with fireworks.
Barcelona

tours of Barcelona can be arranged, including a general familiarisation
tour of the city, the city at night, and gastronomical tours.
It is also possible to arrange to see Barcelona football matches,
depending on availability of tickets.
Vineyards
and Cavas of Catalonia
The Penedes wine producing region of Catalonia
is well known around the world for both its wine and Cava,
so why not come with us to see how it is all done, have a sample
and maybe order to take home. The wine visit can be combined
