Sant Cugat Golf Club

Sant Cugat is the nearest golf course to Barcelona, just 15 minutes from the northern part of the city and very close to the main motorways.

Sant Cugat Golf Club was founded in 1914 by the Barcelona Traction & Light Power; who were building the railway that today still connects the town with Plaza Catalunya and the Barcelona downtown, it takes 25 minutes. Sant Cugat station is at only 5 min. walking from the Clubhouse.

In the early years its name was “New Barcelona Golf Club”. The club is full of history, Seve Ballesteros started off as professional here in March 1974, in 1979 Jose Maria Olazabal won his first Spanish Junior Championship and in 1997 when Sergio Garcia won the Catalonia Open when still an amateur.

Sant Cugat Golf Club has held the Open Peugeot Alps Tour in 2011 (Chris Paisley) and 2012 (Pablo Larrazabal), in this ultimate edition a new page of his history was written with the debut in a professional tournament of Javier Ballesteros, on the same course his father did 38 years ago.

Sant Cugat Golf has hosted Spanish Opens, tournaments of the European Tour, the Ladies European Tour and the Banesto Tour. Amongst the members you can find notables professional players like Paula Martí, Txomin Hospital, Ivo Giner, Nacho Feliu, Fernando Roca and the current member of the European Tour Agus Domingo.

The holes are not particularly long but precision is vital according to pin position as the greens are well protected by bunkers, there are some tricky Par 3 holes which need to be played well in order to mark a good score.
The quality of the greens is excellent and they are held in high esteem by professional players. It is not unusual to find them with a reading over 11 in the stimpmeter speed test.

Sant Cugat ais a private Club requires a golf dress code. The club is open Tuesday to Sunday from 7:30 am until the evening.

The course may open on Mondays for private groups with a shotgun at 9:30 am with other facilities on demand, such as a bbq lunch at the swimming pool terrace.

The Club admits a reduced number of green fee’s to visitors with full use of the course and its facilities; driving range, pitch & putt, gym, swimming pool, kindergarten, etc.
