Golf holidays in South Africa
South
Africa the rainbow nation: spectacularly beautiful and unexpectedly
cosmopolitan, the country that occupies the southernmost tip
of Africa often surprises first-time visitors. While most anticipate
the thrill of seeing big game in a classic African setting, few
are prepared for South Africa's many other rewards.
South Africa embodies a tremendous geographic and cultural
variety. But an equally pleasant surprise is the sophistication
and culture of South Africa's cities. The high quality of South
Africa's travel facilities is worth noting, and the nation's
hotels and lodges include many award winners.
Climate
conditions are also favourable, as most of South Africa enjoys
comfortable temperatures year-round. In addition, currency exchange
rates guarantee good value for European travellers.
The icing on the cake is South Africa's people. Their exceedingly
warm welcome is matched only by the enthusiasm in which they
portray this fantastic country.
A favourite starting point for many visitors is the Western
Cape. The star attraction here is Cape Town, voted one of the
top five cities in the world, a beautiful walking city distinguished
by its dramatic views and the 1165m Table Mountain.
Cape
Town is also noted for its fine restaurants and sophisticated
hotels --including several ranked among the world's best--as
well as an attractive waterfront, lively culture, numerous museums,
an outstanding aquarium and nearby beaches.
Another highlight in the Western Cape is Wine Country and the
scenic Garden Route, which follows the twists and curves of the
southern Cape coast.
For game viewing, South Africa's headline attraction is the
world-famous Kruger National Park and several adjacent private
reserves. Located about four hours from Johannesburg, wildlife
viewing at Kruger and neighbouring reserves is superb.
South
Africa has an abundance of world class golf courses and is famous
for its Sun City Million Dollar tournament. Courses designed
by the likes of Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Peter Matkovich
make this country a golfer’s paradise in every sense of
the word.
The
Fancourt Golf Estate on the garden route captures the natural
beauty of the surrounding landscape – the mountains, the
water, the wildlife, nature and birdlife and meets the requirements
of champions as well as the needs of the improving golfer. Fancourt’s
four courses, designed by Gary Player, offer the golfer a variety
of experiences and its Links Course has been voted South Africa’s
best new course and held the prestigious Presidents Cup in
2003.
Another
course worth mentioning is the Royal Cape Golf Course, situated
20kms from Cape Town. Officially opened on its present site in
1906 this beautiful parkland course is a fine test of golf with
lovely views of the Table Mountain Range.
BCN Golf offers a 16 day tour visiting Cape Town, the lush
Winelands, home to many world renowned wine-estates and historical
buildings, the famous Garden Route featuring farms, forests,
pristine beaches and rolling hills flanked by numerous mountain
ranges. Finally a Safari at Kariega Game Reserve where you will
experience game drives and river cruises as well as a visit to
Shamwari Game Reserve and Addo Elephant Park. Also included are
8 rounds of golf with cart and caddy where available on some
of the finest courses in the area. All tours and transfers are
in luxury air conditioned coach with Spanish speaking guide.
