Golfing on the Maresme Coast, a step between Barcelona & Costa Brava<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just to the north of Barcelona lies the Maresme Coast which offers some great golfing including the beautifully manicured F.W. Hawtree designed Llavaneras Golf Club<\/strong><\/a> with its colonial style clubhouse and terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closeby is another Hawtree design, the Vallromanes Golf Club<\/strong><\/a>, a parkland course with a traditional style Catalan \u2018Masia\u2019 as its clubhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other courses in the area include La Roca Golf<\/strong><\/a> and Sant Vicenc<\/strong><\/a>. Depending on hotel location, golf can also be played at Montanya Golf Club<\/strong><\/a> and the Spanish Open venues of Real Club de Golf El Prat<\/strong><\/a>, and PGA Catalunya<\/strong><\/a>, all of which are easily accessible by road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Maresme Coast is within easy reach of Barcelona by train or car and its coastline includes some of the best beach resorts north of Barcelona. Calella is probably the best known of these but the Maresme has some delightful spots both coastal and inland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The capital of the Maresme Coast is the historical town of Matar\u00f3 which dates back to Roman times and was originally the terminus for the first railway in Spain from Barcelona. Mataro has a superb marina and long sandy beaches, it is also home to the pub \u2018The Drunk Monk<\/strong>\u2019 serving over 500 different types of beer including Craft Ales from all around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For wine lovers Alella, which is a centre of wine production that goes back as far as the Romans and is the closest to Barcelona. Although this D.O. is the smallest in Spain there are various wineries of quality in which to visit and enjoy tastings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barcelona Golf recommends the Atenea Port Hotel<\/a> in Mataro which is situated overlooking the marina and a short walk to the town and railway station, ideal for a visit to the centre of Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
