Women’s Golf in Catalonia – What’s on Offer for the Ladies

There’s nothing better than jetting off to sunnier climates to play golf and here at Barcelona Golf Travel we wanted to give an insight into what is on offer for the ladies whether travelling in small or large groups to Catalonia.

One thing of course is the golf but there’s a lot more here to whet the appetite. A foreign golf vacation is a great stress reliever and a superb way to relax with friends and we think Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia is a great destination to do just that.

The Ladies European Tour (LET) has done much in recent years to promote Women’s golf to both women and girls and they have staged the ‘Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open’ for the past three years on our doorstep, here at the Club de Golf Terramar in Sitges, only 20 minutes from Barcelona’s International airport, a wonderful course overlooking the sea and beach, and very forgiving which is important when on holiday!

‘Sitges is one of my favourite tournament venues on the Ladies European Tour. Every time I have visited, I have always enjoyed the town and I usually stay in local accommodation to get the full experience of culture and dining during the tournament. There are many restaurants to choose from and I am always very impressed with the seafood! The beaches are absolutely stunning, and the coastal tracks are worth walking.

We play at Club de Golf Terramar every year and I really enjoy playing the course. It has a fun design that will definitely test your skills especially when the wind picks up! The views are absolutely beautiful when you’re playing and will see the ocean on most holes. I have been lucky enough to have a hole in 1 at Terramar so I have had some great memories on and off the golf course.

I really recommend visiting Sitges and experiencing what it has to offer. It is only a short trip from Barcelona, so you’re close to everything you need and want from a golfing holiday!’

So what can we offer you both on and off the golf course?

Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia offer some really beautiful accommodation and there is so much to choose from. Barcelona Golf Travel offers some sensational golf resorts in the Costa Brava, Costa Dorada and Barcelona itself which will appeal to many Women’s golf groups and individuals but we also suggest some great beach locations all along the coast and hotels towards the Pyrenees which are idyllic. We know that a relaxing Spa goes down well with many and there is a great choice even including a Wine Spa! Becoming more and more popular now are Masias (Catalan country houses) which can accommodate large groups, these are located throughout Catalonia and many have pools and other amenities. Golf Courses

Catalonia has some some spectacular golf courses, some of which have hosted important international tournaments such as the Open de España, and as already mentioned the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open but there is something for everyone, whether it be a challenge or just a relaxing social round surrounded by gorgeous scenery. Barcelona Golf Travel can organise social events for Womens Golf groups with local players at various clubs to promote interaction between hosts and visitors or we can just leave you to do your own thing. I really like Club de Golf Llavaneras, not only because it is where I was trained as a golfer, but because you can see the Mediterranean Sea from everywhere on the course, it is simply beautiful. I hope more women fall in Love with the game and come to play in Barcelona.
Barcelona is a great golf destination because, besides playing golf, you have many activities to do in the city and, for me, it is what complements a perfect golf trip.’
